[BizInsight@HKUST - Lunch Presentation Series] Diversity and Inclusion
Diversity and inclusion is an increasingly important agenda in the workplace and all functions. Prof Christy ZHOU KOVAL and Prof David DANIELS of the Department of Management will share their research findings on how gender stereotypes contribute to differential evaluations and whether investors value diversity.
Exploring the Gender Gap: How Gender Stereotypes Contribute to Differential Evaluations of Men and Women in the Workplace
Although women now make up about half of the labor force in Hong Kong, they remain largely absent from its top tiers, despite striving to work at such levels and using many of the same career advancement strategies as men. What lead to this persistent gender gap? In this talk, Prof Christy ZHOU KOVAL will explore how gender stereotypes contribute to bias against women in the workplace and discuss strategies that managers can use to maximize the potential of a diverse workforce.
Do Investors Value Diversity? Evidence from Silicon Valley
Do investors think there is a business case for increasing diversity in organizations? In this talk, Prof David DANIELS will discuss new evidence on how investors reacted to a striking series of announcements made by Silicon Valley technology companies which revealed their levels of demographic diversity. His research insights will be useful to managers and investors who are interested in diversity, innovation, and business performance.
