[Business Insight@HKUST - Lunch Presenation Series] Managing Networks for Business and Career Development

Having a strong network is vital to success in the business arena, Professor Bilian Sullivan and Professor Yonghoon Lee of the Department of Management will share their findings and thoughts in managing networks for doing business in China and for different stages of career advancement.

“Guanxi” and Networks: Understanding the Role of Networks While Doing Business in China
Guanxi is one of the most prevalent vocabularies used in China’s business environment. In her talk, Professor Bilian Sullivan will share her insights on the following aspects: 1) How can we understand Guanxi from a general network perspective? 2) What are the idiosyncratic features of Guanxi in China? 3) Are there new characteristics of Guanxi in China’s current business environment?

How to Manage Your Own Networks at the Workplace for Different Stages of Career Advancement?
Networking is an important aspect of career for getting tasks done and seeking opportunities. Despite many conventional wisdoms and many self-help books/ recommendations out there, the most important aspect of networking is seldom discussed.

From years of research on networks and networking carried out by a multitude of scholars, together with his research on networks of professionals and artists, Professor Yonghoon Lee will share key aspects of networks that people need to manage across different stages of one’s career.
